Description

This role offers an opportunity to meaningfully impact the lives of African immigrant and refugee youth and their families while working in a collaborative, strengths-based environment. The Wrap-Around for Student Success Coordinator plays a key role in supporting students and
their families by addressing educational and socio-economic barriers as part of the Development of Black African Refugee and Immigrant Students for Success Program. In partnership with the Oregon Department of Education, Portland Public Schools, and aligned with the African American/Black Student Success Plan, this initiative centers cultural identity, academic achievement, and family engagement. The program’s goals include fostering cultural pride and belonging, strengthening leadership skills, improving academic outcomes, and stabilizing families through coordinated support services. As Wrap-Around for Student Success Coordinator, you will provide individualized case
management, mentorship, and direct connections to essential community resources such as food, healthcare, and housing. Additionally, you will facilitate volunteer and experiential learning opportunities to cultivate civic engagement and deepen community connections.

Requirements

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
● Bilingual/Bicultural proficiency (English/Maay-Maay/Swahili/Somali... preferred).
● Deep understanding of and commitment to African immigrant and refugee communities.
● Culturally responsive case management skills with a trauma-informed approach.
● Strong advocacy and resource navigation abilities.
● Excellent relationship-building and communication skills.
●mAbility to balance multiple priorities while maintaining detailed documentation.
● Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.).
● Capacity to travel for home visits, school meetings, and community outreach.
● Willingness to work evenings and weekends to meet the needs of families.
● Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and insurance coverage.
Education and Experience
● Associate Degree (Bachelor’s preferred) in Social Work, Education, Human Services, or a related field.
● Experience in case management and working with diverse youth populations.
● Experience collaborating with schools, nonprofits, and community organizations.
● Lived experience as a member of an African immigrant or refugee community is highly valued.

Working Conditions
● Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends for family engagement and community events.
● Travel is required for home visits, school meetings, and partner coordination.
● Ability to lift 10-25 pounds for program-related activities.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

Case Management and Family Support
● Provide individualized case management for 75 youth annually, conducting monthly check-ins and strengths-based assessments.

  • Collaborate with families to identify needs and connect them to culturally specific resources, including food pantries, healthcare, and housing support.● Develop personalized action plans to remove barriers to educational success andwell-being. 
  • Volunteer Opportunities and Civic Engagement 
  • Organize monthly volunteer and experiential learning opportunities in collaboration with community partners to cultivate leadership, civic responsibility, and social connection.
● Engage at least 25 students annually in experiential learning within ARIO programs and the broader community.

Family Engagement and Meetings
● Conduct biannual goal-setting meetings with 30-50 families, focusing on student progress, school involvement, and family leadership in education.
● Increase family outreach and participation in school and community events.
● Advocate for equitable access to resources, addressing systemic barriers affecting program participants.

Program Monitoring and Reporting
● Maintain detailed and confidential case files, tracking student progress and engagement outcomes.
● Monitor and evaluate program impact, providing regular reports to the Program Manager.
● Collaborate with community partners to expand available resources and support systems.

Community Partnerships
● Develop and maintain strong partnerships with schools, service providers, and local organizations to ensure comprehensive support for students and families.
● Attend community meetings and forums to stay informed about available resources and opportunities.

Additional Responsibilities
● Collaborate with the Program Manager and Team to develop program strategy and cultivate and manage key relationships with families and funding partners.
● Meet regularly with the Program Manager for training, feedback and coaching.
● Meet regularly with the Program manager and team members to ensure compliance with project deliverables
● Advocate for systemic and policy change, including access to community resources most needed by program participants: food, housing, health care, and more.
